It's spring and that means that the NPEI Kids' Safety Poster Contest is Back!
NPEI is looking for students to get creative and have some fun by designing a poster that illustrates a positive safety message. Your poster may be featured in some of NPEI's upcoming safety campaigns and advertising materials!
Students in grades 1-8 who reside within the NPEI service territory (Niagara Falls, Pelham, Lincoln and West Lincoln) will be eligible to submit a poster for a chance to win a $100 gift card and NPEI gift basket. One winner will be selected in each of the following 3 categories: grades 1-3, 4-6 and 7-8.
The Theme of Your Poster Should Centre Around "Electrical Outlet Safety"
From gates on stairs to locks on cabinet doors, parents do their best to keep their children safe from in-home dangers - and one of these dangers is electricity! It's important to remember that there is no such thing as a safe shock. Even mild shocks from common household appliances can have serious long-term effects, such as anxiety, chronic pain or memory loss. Every year in Ontario 110 kids under age 15 go to the hospital because of an electrical injury.
NPEI wants all students to help us get the word out! We want you to create a poster this year that teaches people the importance of staying safe around electrical outlets in your home. This could include:
- Installing outlet cover plates
- Replacing any cords that are frayed or damaged
- Never unplugging an item from the outlet by the cord
To help you come up with ideas for your poster, you can check out the Electrical Safety Authority's Website to learn more about the dangers of electric shocks.
Your Poster:
- Must be created and drawn by the student - no computer images or help from parents - and should communicate an electrical safety message
- Must be on size 8.5"X11" paper
- Must be submitted with an official entry form (found below)
- Will be judged on creativity, artistic quality and the safety message
Posters must be submitted by June 2, 2023
Posters can be submitted to NPEI by:
1. Scanning and emailing a copy of the poster to contest@npei.ca
